PROLOGUE
3102 BC, 18 February
The 4th Cycle of the Revolution,
known as Kali Yuga, began with the death of Lord Krishna. With this transition,
a significant change occurred in the realms of Devas, Asuras, Apsaras, Daitya,
Danavas and more. They departed from the earthly plane, and the gates to both
the heavenly realms and the underworld were permanently sealed by the decree of
Lord Vishnu. Earth was now exclusively inhabited by humans, Rakshasas, Yakshas,
and Nagas.
For a prolonged period, peace
reigned, and the planet remained untouched by warfare. A division had been
established: the Rakshasas and Yakshas dwelled across the water, while the
Nagas occupied their capital, Naga-Loka, situated in the heart of the
Sundarbans Forest.
Then, one fateful day, King
Hiramitra of Panchavat harboured a formidable ambition. He aspired to rule over
the entire world, to subdue every kingdom, and to be crowned as the sovereign
of Bharat. Recognizing the Rakshasas' indomitable might, he determined that
they would be his first target. To achieve this, he embarked on a calculated
campaign to instigate kingdoms across Bharat against the Rakshasas.
King Hiramitra dispatched
letters far and wide, detailing the historical grievances of humans at the
hands of the Rakshasas. He recounted how the Rakshasas had mistreated humans
for countless generations, how they had slain our forebears, and how the time
had come to erase their existence from the face of the planet. He declared that
Earth belonged exclusively to humans, as it had been created by Lord Brahma for
their habitation.
Though many kingdoms spurned his
proposition, a considerable number chose to align with him. Hiramitra
tirelessly worked to stoke the fires of animosity against the Rakshasas,
further escalating tensions. The kingdoms that joined his cause formed a
formidable coalition, united by their vow to eradicate all non-human
entities—Rakshasas, Yakshas, and even Nagas.
The first and most extensive
battle of Kali Yuga ignited between Humans and Non-Humans. This protracted
conflict spanned a considerable duration, with humans ruthlessly slaying every
non-human they encountered, including children and women. The land was marred
by rivers of blood and littered with lifeless bodies. Chaos and death reigned
supreme, and the Rakshasas were steadily losing ground, teetering on the brink
of annihilation.
Recognizing the avarice of
humans, the Naga king sought to protect his people. Unwilling to engage in the
war, he decided to conceal his entire kingdom within the depths of the
Sundarbans Forest. With the assistance of ancient witches and sorcerers, they
wove a powerful magical barrier around their kingdom. This barrier effectively
created another dimension on Earth, accessible only through specific gates.
Naga-Loka became a forbidden kingdom, shielded from the rest of the world.
Yakshas, appearing similar to
humans but possessing unique powers, chose a different path. To ensure their
survival, they decided to live among humans and solemnly pledged never to
employ their extraordinary abilities.
Tragically, Rakshasas did not
share the human resemblance, and they bore the brunt of the aggression. In a
mere year and a half, more than seventy percent of their race had been
decimated, and their existence was on the precipice of extinction. Only a scant
few remained, hiding in the wilderness in a desperate bid for survival. Yet,
they were relentlessly hunted down by humans or succumbed to the ravages of
time. After several years, the Rakshasas, Yakshas, and Nagas gradually became
relegated to the realm of myth and legend.
